CHINAR TREES IN SHIMLA ( HIMACHAL PRADESH )

CHINAR TREES IN SHIMLA ( HIMACHAL PRADESH )

This is Shimla ridge . The only ground and flat space  available at  this hill station . Here on this ridge, you come across  three imposing statues ;one being of the  father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi  the other   of  Indira Ji  and the last one  of Dr  Y S Parmar founder of Himachal Pradesh . The evening breeze , the Balconies to view surrounding hills ,  Horses with tourists on their backs , the Photographers , Old Heritage buildings , the Church seeking men to visit  ,  Ice cream vendors , fruit juice shops, Restaurants, kashmiri Labourers skillfully  carrying loads on their back  ( Locally known as khan ) , Nepali labourers ( Locally Known as Bahadurs ) and the   imposing chinars (Platanus orientalis ) in the Park add special aura to Ridge  in shimla.
It was Dr L S Negi Director Agriculture cum Horticulture H. P.  who planted two chinar trees on ridge  long back. Both the trees have grown and look  majestic  now . I saw them on my visit to Shimla . In fact these Chinars are five in number . A large one is inside the ridge park while the other one is just outside it . Two more medium sized chinars are also  inside the park while another small sapling is   growing fast near the  statue of Dr Y S Parmar   .So lovely to see the Chinars  spreading . So shall  people enjoy the shade of these mighty trees.

Shimla   has little  water . No snow . little  rains . No stream . No river . Water on hills in this area is precious . Enjoy Faiz with this story on  Shimla Chinars .

(Kuchh Ishq Kiyaa Kuchh Kaam kiyaa )

Woh log Bahut Khush kismet thay,
Jo Ishq ko kaam Samajhatey thay
Ya kaam se aashiqi Kartey thay
Hum jeete ji Masroof Rahey
Kuchh Ishq Kiyaa kuchh kaam Kiyaa
Kaam ishq Ke Aarre aataa rahaa
Aur Ishq se kaam Ulajhataa rahaa
Phir aakhir tang aa kar Hum ne
Donon Ko adhoora Chor Diyaa.

 Fortunate Indeed were those ,
Who treated love as their business.
Or who were in love with whatever they did .
I remained busy all my life –
Some love ,some work.
Work came in the way of my love ,
Love often impeded my work .
Then finally , in disgust , giving up it all,
I forsook them both , Half done.
