TO THIS PHOTO I AM ADDING SOME DOHAAS OF KABIR ON TEST OF A REAL SADHU.

A SADHU , SNAKE AND WATER

There are many DOHAAS ( Two line poetic combinations ) that kabir has said about a real Sadhu . I do not remember the particular DOHAA which I heard long back from our school principal Late Shri Dina Nath Hanjura . The Dohaa in particular conveyed that to survive and be pure , a sadhu , a snake and water should be in continuous motion. A sadhu who gets fixed to a place and builds his resting place is surely tempted by world and its materialism. Suspect him as he can prove to be an ordinary mortal . Similarly a snake is likely to get killed if it rests at a place . The survival of a snake is motion alone . So does the rule of survival apply to water. Stagnant water is polluted and impure. Running rivers bring fresh and pure water. I quote some more Dohaas of Kabir on this issue .

Behtaa Paani Nirmal Hai Bandhaa to Gandhaa hoye

Sadhu jan Ramtaa bhalaa Daag na laagay Koye .

Flowing water is pure and stagnant impure,

Better for a sadhu to be on move ,that shall keep him free from any impurity of mind.

Yeh kaliyug aayo Abbay Sadhuu Na Maane Koye

Kaami Krodhi Mas-kharaa Tin Ki Pooja Hoye ..

This is kaliyuga no one is after a real Sadhu

People full of lust .Anger and cheap humour are worshipped .

Haansi kheil Haraam hain Jo Jan Ramtay Raam

Maaya , Mandir Istari Nahin Sadhu ki kaam

Playfulness and Cheap humour are not meant for those who worship Rama

Building Temples , Creating Wealth and attachment to women are not the deeds of a sadhu.

Jaun Chalay sansaar ki Taun Ko Sadhu Naahin

Dinb Chaal Karni Karay Sadhu mat kaho Taahin

Those who demonstrate greed in their deeds are not worthy of being called a sadhu .

He who moves in the worldly way Can never be a sadhu.

Sadhu kahaavan Kathin hai Lambaa peid khajoor

Chaday to Chaakhay prem russ Giray to chaknaachoor

Spirituality is a tough path like the tall Date tree .

Those who reach the top, taste the sweetness of love ‘s labour and those who fall mid way fall to dust .
